This course introduces 91´«Ã½ to arts management principles, including organizational operations, mission-driven programming, and business strategies in the creative economy. It explores emerging trends, policies, and adaptive leadership in the evolving arts and cultural sectors. Students will examine the creative economy, covering contracts, work-life dynamics, and key trends in the arts and entertainment industries shaped by globalization and digitization. The course also explores major business models—commercial, nonprofit, and hybrid—and legal considerations such as contracts, negotiations, and intellectual property. Additionally, 91´«Ã½ will learn strategies for managing a portfolio career and developing enterprise models for artist-entrepreneurs.

A study of management in modern organizations. This course examines the factors which influence individual, group, and firm behavior in the context of the workplace. Topics covered include individual differences, motivation, leadership, business ethics, group behavior, decision making, and organizational design and change.

Nature and contributions of the elements of marketing communications (e.g., advertising, sales promotions, the Web) in creating brand equity and stimulating demand. A project-oriented course with an emphasis on the strategic application of concepts resulting in an integrated communication plan for products and/or services. Course has a complementary lab component to teach technical skills and reinforce concepts via practicum.

An examination of the moral and ethical issues associated with management policy and executive decisions. The course examines the basic approaches to moral reasoning, macro-moral issues concerning the justice of economic systems, and micro-moral issues, such as the following: conflict of interest, whistle blowing, discrimination in employment, product safety, environment, and advertising.

World dance includes a vast array of dance forms, from traditional ceremonial dances to social dances, reflecting the rich diversity of cultures around the globe. Each dance style is deeply rooted in a specific culture, with its own history, meaning, and purpose Specific footwork, body shape, and rhythmic patterns are taught along with storytelling and ritualistic elements. No dance experience necessary.

Production and stage management are essential leadership roles for all performance organizations. Students will begin to develop a personal management style necessary to manage and run theater, dance, and film productions. Students will explore methods and skills required to manage productions through hand-on exercises. The course offers 91´«Ã½ greater understanding of the artistic and organizational best practices for running creative performance organizations, while focusing on the collaborative communication essential to an inventive and safe environment.
