These experiences make you aware of the real-life applications of the geosciences as well as give you contacts that will help with your next steps.

Recent Summer Internship Experiences

Madison Williams ’23

Intern, Paradox Farm, Summer 2021
This summer I worked as an intern on Paradox Farm, located right outside of Lexington. After hearing of the farm from Laura Adams ‘21 who interned there last summer, I knew it would be a great opportunity to combine my environmental studies and geology backgrounds.

Intern, Friends of Harriman State Park, Summer 2021
This summer I worked as a marketing and PR intern for Friends of Harriman State Park in Island Park, Idaho. Initially, I was set to work with the group the summer of 2020, but with Covid those plans were put on hold. When I was offered the internship the following summer I immediately agreed, looking forward to working with a group focused on conservation and spending time out west.

Intern, Jones Lange LaSalle (JLL), Summer 2021
This summer, I had a 10-week internship program with Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) in their Atlanta office. JLL is an international real estate services firm, but I was working with the Capital Markets team which provides investment sales advisory and debt/equity placement for real estate transactions. For the first five weeks, the interns cycled through different asset groups including Land (which involves a lot of the same work as a landman for an exploration & production company), Industrial, Office, Retail, Multifamily, Affordable Housing, and Debt/Equity placement. We spent the last five weeks specializing with an asset type and working on our capstone project, which was a mock buy-side pitch presentation of a previously transacted asset. I was able to work on live transactions and work with full-time analysts and associates every day, which helped me to learn-by-doing much like we do in the geology department.
