Lecture and Reception

September 23, 2025, 5:30-6:30 pm (Wilson Hall’s Concert Hall)

About the Exhibition

Using mathematical and scientific principles, Minjeong An creates digital renderings of subjects including the mother, the family, the natural world, and the human body. These chart-like, diagrammatic drawings quantify and visualize abstract notions, with specific emphasis on the realm of emotion. The artist pulls imagery from memories and everyday life and illustrates the invisible, juxtaposing subjective experience with objective methods of measurement. The resulting image appears rational and complex, yet the artist seeks not only to bring the viewer into the subtle dimensions of her personal experience, but to make the viewer laugh.

An was born in Chorwon and currently lives and works in Seoul, South Korea. She holds a BFA and MFA in Fine Arts from Seoul National University of Science and Technology, where she is currently a part-time lecturer. An has exhibited at institutions including The Museum of Modern Art, New York; P21 Gallery, Seoul; and Seventeen Gallery, London. Her work was included in the 2024 Shanghai Biennale.
