Anthony DeMauro
"I’m incredibly excited to facilitate a program like this where young people come together to cultivate a deeper sense of care for themselves and the world around them. Such a space creates a special opportunity to begin living into the world we all know is possible-one of connection, understanding, and compassion."
Anthony DeMauro leads the Dalai Lama Fellows (DLF), a global leadership program designed to help emerging social innovators cultivate capacities of emotional intelligence, resilience, and compassion that support and sustain the work of social change. In this capacity, he provides curricular experiences and coaching to help fellows develop an aware, authentic, and caring approach to leadership grounded in a deep connection to oneself, others, and the ecosystems in which they operate. Anthony also teaches academic courses at UVA on topics of purpose and belonging.
Prior to his current role, Dr. DeMauro worked and studied in the Contemplative Teaching and Learning Lab at the University of Virginia’s School of Education and Human Development. His research focused on how K-12 teachers’ personal mindfulness practices influenced their professional teaching practice such as their ability to build relationships with 91´«Ã½, manage their classrooms, and meet 91´«Ã½’ needs. He also taught courses in classroom management and mindfulness for teachers. His teaching and scholarly work emerged from his own experiences working in educational settings as a teacher, clinician, coach, and consultant.
Dr. DeMauro earned a B.A in Psychology from American University, a M.S. in Applied Developmental Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning at the University of Virginia.
