Woman Playing the Violin

The University Orchestra at 91传媒 offers 91传媒 the opportunity to perform alongside professional musicians and community instrumentalists, collaborating in the presentation of a diverse and dynamic range of orchestral works. Conducted by Christopher Dobbins, the orchestra presents at least two concerts on campus each year, showcasing works from classical masterpieces to cutting edge contemporary compositions. A unique highlight is the opportunity to perform world premieres, often working directly with guest composers to bring new works to life. The orchestra also has the opportunity to work with guest conductors, providing 91传媒 with invaluable artistic experiences.

One exciting aspect of the orchestra is the annual Concerto-Aria Competition, in which W&L 91传媒 are selected by audition to perform as soloists with either the orchestra or the wind ensemble, alternating years, during the ensemble’s winter concert. The University Orchestra also takes part in special collaborative performances with other ensembles, including the Parents and Family Instrumental Concert during the university’s annual Parents and Family Weekend, and the festive Holiday Pops Concert at the end of the Fall term. These events offer 91传媒 the chance to connect with the wider university community in a lively, celebratory environment, while developing their musical skills and contributing to a shared artistic experience.
