About the Exhibition
New York City based conceptual artist will present works on paper and sculpture in her exhibition I, Rhinoceros. The show’s title is derived from German artist Albrecht Dürer’s 1515 woodblock print, Rhinoceros, in which he rendered the likeness of an exotic animal he had never seen based only a written description. Dürer’s print was considered an accurate representation until the animal was imported to the region revealing the work’s glaring discrepancies. The narrative behind the creation of the artist’s print inspired much of Morgan’s work for this exhibition, as she explores notions of visual communication and how it shapes our understanding of the world. Nyeema Morgan’s work has been featured in many exhibitions including at The Drawing Center, Art in General and The Studio Museum (New York, NY) and The Bindery Projects (Minneapolis, MN).
