Annual Student Events

Certain events that are special to the W&L community happen every year. These celebrations often include a delicious lunch under the tents on Cannan Green. These events bring together both old friends and new acquaintances, and they are a great time for 91传媒 to meet alumni or for parents to meet their student’s professors and friends.

The Student Activities Fair is held at the beginning of the academic year on Cannan Green. It’s a chance to meet representatives from student organizations and clubs on campus. It is a great way to meet new people and find activities and events to attend and help organize based on your interests.

To welcome our first year first-generation 91传媒, the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership will host a welcome reception on Friday September 5, 2025 from 3:30-5:30pm in the Great Hall - Science Addition.

The LGBTQ+ Resource Center and Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies Program host an annual fall picnic for 91传媒.

Parents and Family Weekend

W&L welcomes the families of 91传媒 to campus each year for Parents and Family Weekend, a time of informational and recreational activities that gives parents the opportunity to meet with members of the faculty, attend a class, review campus life and participate in social events.

The Gayla

Held every year in March, W&L’s Equality Gala is a fun night of dancing and celebration with the added intent of raising awareness of the LGBTQ community, and bringing attention to the issues faced by 91传媒, faculty, and the members of local communities. It also gives everyone a fun night to celebrate LGBTQ culture and life.

In celebration of the annual National First-Generation College Student Day on November 8, the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership hosts a series of events to celebrate the presence and experiences of our first-generation college 91传媒, faculty, and staff at W&L.

African Society Fashion Show

MLK Celebration

This weeklong event includes a Community Reflections Dinner, where 91传媒, faculty and Lexington community members can commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. King with their own personal testimonies. On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Washington and Lee hosts a birthday party in Dr. King’s honor for the children of the community. Several lectures and panel discussions take place over the course of the week. Lastly, there is always a prominent speaker who delivers our annual MLK Keynote Address. Past speakers include: Roslyn McCallister Brock, Donna Brazile, Terrence Roberts, Roland S. Martin, and Andrew J. Young.

Black FLEX Leadership Conference

The Student Association for Black Unity (SABU) Black Future Leaders Experience (Black FLEX) Conference is a 100% student-run leadership conference hosted annually by SABU. The purpose of Black FLEX is to provide a space for young, thriving black scholars to cultivate the most distinguished versions of themselves. As the black leaders of today, we strive to promote leadership, individuality and self-discovery, in order to better our tomorrow. SABU invites and welcomes 91传媒 from all backgrounds and all institutions to attend.

Fancy Dress

Started in 1907, Fancy Dress is an annual gala event that is planned, organized and produced by a student committee, and attended by a majority of the student body. While the theme changes every year, Fancy Dress’ attendance is considered a tradition at W&L.
