Landon B. Lane Memorial Scholarship in Journalism

JMC 91传媒 working on an assignment

The department’s most prestigious award, the Lane Scholarship is granted to a journalism major who shows evidence of strong academic achievement and genuine promise in the field of journalism.

Typically, a scholarship is awarded annually to a junior, who may continue as a Lane Scholar in his or her senior year. It is highly appropriate for the Lane Scholar to produce a paper of academic merit during the senior year; however, this is not a requirement. To retain the scholarship, the recipient will be required to remain in the Journalism or Business Journalism sequences in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications until graduation.

Juniors may apply by submitting a resume and a cover letter outlining activities, interests and career goals, paying particular attention to the requirements and preferences listed above. Evidence of journalistic qualifications may include clips or academic work that provides evidence of writing and analytical ability.

Scholarship recipients are selected by the department faculty. The fund is administered by the office of Financial Aid.
