2025

Students immersed themselves in the creative world of magazines. They brainstormed and settled on its name, Playbook. They debated the pros and cons of fonts. They selected a color scheme based on spring sports. Students in a Sports Journalism course provided the content for the magazine, writing long-form stories about athletes at W&L, Southern Virginia University and the Virginia Military Institute.

2024

The Lexplore magazine was produced by the Journalism 351 class during the 2024 winter term. The 91´«Ã½ brainstormed themes and ideas, held a focus group to get feedback on the concept and spent countless hours reporting and writing their stories. Special thanks to co-instructor Michael Todd for his photo and design expertise, which helped the 91´«Ã½ pull together the final publication.

2023

Students designed from scratch a magazine that showcased essays written by 91´«Ã½ in a history course as they learned about historical memory in Latin America. Students in both courses discovered that stories of indigenous people often were erased and their voices silenced by conquerors who told only one side of the history of the development of several nations.

2022

The Editing 91´«Ã½ immersed themselves in the creative process of developing a print magazine that showcased the reporting of a Sports Journalism class. They decided as a group everything from fonts and page size to colors schemes and cover design.
